The Neuropsychology program at Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital focuses on the evaluation of brain-behavior relationships and neurocognitive functioning.
A doctor, teacher, school psychologist or other professional may refer children and adolescents to our neuropsychologists due to difficulties or changes in memory, attention, executive functioning, processing speed, behavior, socialization, emotional control, or learning. This can be due to a medical condition such as a concussion, traumatic brain injury, stroke, seizures, epilepsy, exposure to chemotherapy and/or radiation, genetic condition, or other medical condition.

Neuropsychological Evaluation
Formal testing of neurocognitive abilities, called a neuropsychological evaluation, may be completed to assess brain functioning. A neuropsychological examination measures brain functions such as:
- Intellectual abilities
- Learning and Memory
- Attention and Concentration
- Executive functioning, such as time management, organization and planning skills
- Processing speed
- Language
- Visual perception, visual-spatial skills
- Motor coordination skills
- Academic Achievement
- Emotional, social and behavioral functioning
One of our neuropsychologists or supervised trainees will conduct the evaluation and interpret the test results to make a diagnosis and recommendations for treatment. Evaluations may also be helpful in educational, vocational, and treatment planning.
